About Elmpt Station
Elmpt Station (formerly RAF Bruggen) was constructed in the early 1950s but closed as an RAF station in 2001. The camp was officially taken over by the Army on 28th February 2002 and renamed Elmpt Station. It is part of Rhine Garrison which also includes Rheindahlen and Mönchengladbach. Elmpt Station is under command of Rhine and European Support Group (RESG), although Units on Station are under Op Command of other Headquarters/Brigades.
Elmpt town is situated situated on the border of Germany and the Netherlands located between Dusseldorf and Roermond. The autobahn 52 runs past the front gate and from here it is a three and a half hour drive to Calais. There are railway stations nearby and several airports.
Elmpt Station consists of Javelin Barracks, a large married quarter community at Wildenrath and a smaller one in nearby Bracht. 7 Signal Regiment (made up of 229, 231 & 232 Signal Squadrons) and 16th Signal Regiment (made up of 230 (Malaya), 252 (Hong Kong), 255 (Bahrain) and Support Sqn) are based in Javelin Barracks at Elmpt together with Lodger Units - Rhine Area Workshops, 921 EOD Sqn 11 EOD Regt RLC, 628 Signal Tp and 43 AEC.
The name Javelin Barracks was adopted due to the use of the ‘Javelin' flash by members of the 1st Signal Brigade. .
Housing is provided in the form of two married quarter areas, Elmpt and Wildenrath. The station has many excellent sports and leisure facilities, two gymnasiums and an outdoor swimming pool (which is only open in the summer months) and a variety of clubs for adults and children.
